When does the deposit need to be returned?

Insured: Once you have left the property you should make sure you have:

  • paid all your rent up to date
  • met all your contractual responsibilities
  • formally requested the return of your deposit and waited 10 days

Any tenant or interested party listed on the deposit protection certificate has three calendar months from the date of leaving the property, or the date the deposit was unprotected, whichever is earliest, to request a resolution

Example – if you moved out on 2 January 2021 the final date to request a resolution would be midnight on 1 April 2021.

Custodial: Once you have left the property, the listed lead tenant or any listed interested party can initiate the release, however a member can also initiate a deposit release.

Only the lead tenant will be notified where a member has initiated a release and the lead tenant or any listed interested party will then have 14 calendar days to respond to the release request.
